An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two children both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the location in July.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on recently.

Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on 28 November.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor stated objects including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepchild notified the police about his worries.

She explained Ruben went on to play the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"The police had not responded by that time," she continued.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior said the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson notified the police a second time.

She stated the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
